Practical Precepts Uno

September 16, 2010

Tons of people have told me that the Bible is boring and that it contradicts itself.  They say they want to read the Bible but it is just too difficult to understand.  All 3 are false.  The Bible is far from boring.  Killin’ (some really graphic killin’ at that), people getting freaky, miracles, and all kinds of other fun stuff.  The Bible does not contradict itself either.  Ignorant or malicious readers take things out of context and make them seem contradictory.  I blame the media.  And, it’s not difficult to understand.  The King James is on a 12th grade reading level.  If you’re there you can conquer it.  But there are many options if you don’t dig thee, thou, or art.  I rarely use that version myself.

I say that to say this; the Bible is a necessary read.  It teaches us to live.  It is not outdated and it isn’t all “Theology”.  The Bible is a practical book filled with a butt load (first century Greek unit of measurement) of precepts, or established ways of doing things.  I want to take a few of these here blogedies and share some practical ones with ya.

1.  You can’t live right until you treasure His Word.  Psalm 119:11 says “Your Word have I treasured in my heart that I might not sin against You.”  People tell me all the time they want to get their lives right and be a better Christian.  I share this with them and they have that look on their face that just says “Well eff”  If you’re unwilling to make a change in your daily routine, such as reading the Bible, then you’re too lazy to live right anyway.  I’m just saying…

2.  God doesn’t always listen to me.  Psalm 66:18 says “If I regard iniquity in my life, the Lord will not hear me”  That’s why those “oh crap handle” prayers don’t always work.  If you’ve given iniquity priority you’ve plugged up His ear to your situations.  Iniquity literally means twisted.  All those twisted attitudes, beliefs, relationships, etc have done some damage.  You know that stuff you knew was jacked up but allowed it anyway?  Yeah, that’s the twisted junk that stopped up Daddy’s ears.  Sometimes you have to deal with some junk before you can move on.  You can’t conquer what you won’t confront.

To be continued….
